Postgraduate Diploma in Management

Degree or equivalent qualification in a business area. Students on the Postgraduate Diploma in Management must be over 21 years of age.

BA in Business Management

Students transferring to the final year of this programme should have one of the following or equivalent qualifications:

• ICM Advanced Diploma in Business
• HND in Business
• HETAC Higher Certificate
• NUI or HETAC Ordinary Degree

Students entering into the first year of a three year degree programme should have passed 5 subjects at Leaving Certificate or equivalent.

ICM Diplomas

Students should have passed 5 subjects at Leaving Certificate or equivalent.

Mature Students

Mature students [over 21 on 1st January of the year of entry] who do not meet the above requirements may gain admission on the basis of life and/or work experience to date. Many students at Galway Business School are accepted to programmes on this basis. Suitability will be determined by interview.

International Students

International students must satisfy the equivalent requirements to those required of Irish students. To check the equivalence of your national qualifications, please see www.naric.org.uk.

English Language Requirements

If you are not a native speaker of English, we require proof of your English Language Level. Students entering our diploma or degree programmes must have attained Level 6.0+ in IELTS or equivalent examinations. Students entering our postgraduate programmes must have attained Level 6.5+ in IELTS or equivalent examinations.

Foundation Programme

For international students whose high school qualifications do not meet the required level, Galway Business School offers three Foundation Programmes for entry to various stages of third-level programmes in Ireland and the UK. Programmes available are:

• · Pre-foundation programme for students with an English language level of IELTS 4.0 – 4.5 or equivalent.
• · Foundation programme for students with an English language level of IELTS 5.0 – 5.5 or equivalent.
• · Pre-masters foundation programme for students with an English language level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

Applying For A Student Visa

In applying for a Student Visa you must be able to show that:

• You are enrolled on a course
• You have paid the required fees to the school or college
• You have the academic ability to follow your chosen course
• You have the required English language level
• You have immediate access to at least € 7,000. This is the estimated cost of living in Ireland for a student for one academic year
• You must also demonstrate that you or your sponsor has ready access to an amount of at least € 7,000 for each subsequent year of your studies, in addition to the course fees for each of those years
• You have private medical insurance
• You can account for any gaps in your educational history
• Your intention is to return to your country of permanent residence following completion of your studies in Ireland

Dual Accreditation

GBS gives students completing ICM Programmes the additional opportunity to gain FETAC awards which can build towards a full FETAC Certificate. This means students gain two awards for the same investment.

Pastoral Care

Our administrative and lecturing staff are trained to give you the guidance you need to achieve all your goals as well as providing you with valuable life skills. Workshops on Referencing, Academic Writing, Assignment Drafting and Academic Research are held throughout the year.

Small Class Sizes

We believe that small groups can facilitate good learning. It is too easy for you to be a number in the back of a lecture hall rather than a student with distinctive learning needs. We understand that high teaching standards, when combined with small class sizes, facilitate an optimal learning experience.

Galway Business School moved to its current location in 2003. Our campus provides students with comfortable facilities housed in a modern building overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Galway Bay.
