Our Students’ Union organises lots of activities for you to get involved in. You could become an SU representative and become the voice of your fellow students. You could also become a course representative and really make a difference to college life and at the same time, get invaluable experience of communicating with senior members of staff.

If it’s sport you love, then our sports coordinators want to hear from you. It’s her job to organise sport and leisure activities, helping you to exercise your body as well your mind! If there’s a sport you’re interested in and you want to play it with your friends – let us know and we’ll do out best to organise it.

Tailor-made Courses & Training Programmes
“Imagine the course, we’ll make it happen”
The International Centre works closely with educational institutions and commercial clients around the world to produce unique tailor-made courses.
By offering flexibility in course design we have created programmes ranging from one week to one year. Drawing on the rich diversity of teaching expertise and specialist knowledge of the academic divisions at the College and our affiliated lecturers and consultant trainers, the International Centre has been able to satisfy the exact course content needs of clients including schools, overseas businesses and groups of teachers seeking professional development courses.
The programmes are managed from the International Centre which operates courses across the College’s four sites in Acton, Ealing, Hammersmith & Southall.

Examples include:
  • Italy (various schools) – 2 and 3 week English courses
  • Taiwan (Taipei) – 2 and 3 week English and Cultural Experience Programme
  • Denmark (various colleges) – 1, 2 and 3 week English & Business and IT Programmes and 1 week Staff Development Programme

  • Norway (various schools) – 1 year A level equivalent programme
  • Hong Kong (various schools) – 2 and 3 week English courses

Student Services

Mentoring:

Our mentoring programme aims to provide increased motivation in our students by offering one-to-one support and guidance. Mentoring has proven to be an invaluable tool in, improving individual successes and generally in assisting the progression of our students onto higher education.

Tutorial Support:

We believe in providing you with a supportive and encouraging learning environment. All students have a personal tutor who is there to provide you with all the advice and support that you need to succeed at College and achieve your best.

Enrichment:

The personality and atmosphere of our College really surfaces through our enrichment programmes as we provide both 16-19 year olds and adult students with a significant and effective tutorial practice as well as arranging educational outings aimed at improving retention and achievement.

Welfare and Counselling Advice:

Welfare and counselling advice is a free service available to all students enrolled at any of the College sites. These services can be accessed through the Counselling and Advice Service at Hammersmith and the Student Guidance Units at Acton, Ealing, and Southall. Welfare advisors can provide information and advice to help you get the most out of your studies, for example; assisting with benefit queries, providing general welfare information and advice about finding local accommodation. Counsellors are trained to listen and help you to discuss anything that is worrying you, causing anxiety or affecting your ability to study. They provide a confidential service, usually by appointment, and you can talk about any difficulties you may have no matter how big or small. If you have any concerns or worries whilst in College, do not hesitate to drop in and see us.

Careers Advice and Guidance:

The College Careers team is available to advise and support you when you are making important decisions about your future. Based in the Careers Room in the Learning Resource Centre at Hammersmith, the Careers Room at Ealing and the Student Guidance units at Acton and Southall, the Careers team offers regular drop-in sessions and individual appointments for students.
The Careers team can support you in many ways, including how to research different career options, how to apply for college or university and where to look for job opportunities. The advisers also have information on training programmes, employment, university/college open days, student loans and grants. They can help you to prepare your CV, complete job/college/university application forms and further improve your interview techniques.

You will have full access to special careers computer programmes, the Internet, books and videos.
Connexions Personal Advisers are also able, during set times and by appointment, to offer individual guidance interviews.

Students’ Union & Liaison:

All students automatically become members of the Students’ Union (SU) when they enrol at the College. The SU works with College staff to organise student forums, trips, parties and leisure activities including football, basketball and other clubs. Members can apply for an NUS card qualifying them for discounts at various cinemas, shops and restaurants. Elected student representatives form the SU Executive Committee. The Executive members are elected to voice your opinions about the College and its facilities. Students can apply for positions such as President, Student Governor, Equality and diversity officer and Women’s officer in elections that take place in mid-September each year.

The Protection of Children & Vulnerable Adults:

The College recognises that members of staff and students have a valuable part to play in safeguarding the welfare of children under 18 and vulnerable adults attending study programmes or College events.
College staff have worked in consultation with Social Services and other agencies to produce a policy and procedures for the protection of children and vulnerable adults. For an informal discussion about any concerns you may have, you can contact the College counsellors at any of the College sites. If you would like to find out more about protection issues, the Senior Child Protection Manager for the College is the Manager of Information Advice and Guidance.

International students have various questions when considering coming to the UK to study including applying for a student visa, finance, health and many other issues. If it is a specific query related to the College, the International Centre is available for advice.
